I also never witnessed any shoplifting the dozen or so times I went to the BC WalMart.
Here is an article about the Walmart in Sioux Falls, SD.

https://www.argusleader.com/story/ne...busy/95433290/

Wal-Mart stores draw more calls to police in Sioux Falls than any other retailer, far exceeding call volumes for similar big-box competitors in the city.

The persistent pull on police time and resources — not unique to Sioux Falls — is raising questions among some on the City Council.

It must be all those liberal policies in Sioux Falls

There is some wisdom in some saying, so I'll reference a perfect one for this situation.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones

Even Miss South Dakota is getting in on the act.

https://www.argusleader.com/story/ne...t/69877834007/

Court documents allege Shania Ann Knutson committed repeat thefts at Walmart between October and December. Knutson allegedly stole a total of $554.54 worth of goods across 12 separate occasions.

You just can't make this stuff up. I had to add this because it made me LOL for real.

You just can't grasp the difference can you. In Sioux Falls, if you shop-lift even small value items you WILL GET ARRESTED IF CAUGHT. Yes, there can be repeat offenders. Most all prisoners in jails have been there before. The big difference is, law enforcement here isn't effectively neutered from enforcing the laws. City leaders have the police's backs. One other thing, when the laws are broken here, they get reported. Not covered up. NO ONE is afraid to drive in the city for fear of being car-jacked.

We're building new Walmart's here, not CLOSING them. People are moving here so rapidly that housing can't keep up. South Dakota just set a national record for the lowest unemployment at 1.9%. We're LOWERING taxes (from 4.5% to 4.25% state sales tax) instead of constantly raising them like in the Land of 10,000 Taxes.

Nice try.

Imagine un-ironically bragging about building new WalMarts, as if it's some sort of business climate accomplishment, while s***-talking a state with EIGHTEEN Fortune 500s (which is, what, 18 more than SD has?)....

But seriously, congrats to my home state of South Dakota. You all should feel really great about the impact of your politics and those consistently low tax thresholds:

South Dakota Infrastructure Report Card

4 out of the 5 poorest counties in the US are in South Dakota

Teacher Shortage Worsens in SD Due to Politics, Low Pay, Lack of Respect

By drawing 50 ‘states’ according to income, study reveals ‘developing countries’ within the U.S.

Just a reminder. This sub-heading is under the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. This is where the politics and idiocy is centered in Minnesota. Minnesota in general is a geographically gorgeous state with fine people. Unfortunately, the Twin Cities via their population dominates everything, including most of the rest of your state's citizens.

South Dakota, MINUS the reservations, is doing great. The state has little or no control over anything going on in the rez's because they're "sovereign" nations where the only outside control is the federal government. So, when I speak of 1.9% unemployment, I guarantee that does not include the reservations. It isn't like they can just build a casino on the prairie and all their financial problems are solved like in Minnesota. It's a federal government problem they created. The whole reservation thing to me should be trashed.

Teacher pay IS a problem. However, the COL in SD is very low here compared to almost anywhere. A need for new teachers is obvious when there is a jump of 13,000 more kids statewide (per your article). We do have to do better. I'm in agreement here.

Let's see, an article about infrastructure in the LA Times. Have they looked in their own backyard? Once again, there's no mention where this problem exists. If there's any major problems, you can guess where that is. EVERY state has issues on secondary roads with older bridges. I drive this state a lot and the highways are in good condition and are constantly are repaired.

Once again with your developing countries article. You KNOW what is included in it. Outside of the rez's, there's nothing "developing" about SD. Our economy is doing great.

Incidentally, there are no longer Walmarts in San Francisco OR Seattle. Also, Nordstrom (a Seattle headquartered company) just announced the closing of two stores in San Francisco. The watered down explanation is "changed dynamics" when everyone with a brain knows what those dynamics are. The same changing dynamics as Brooklyn Center. https://www.foxbusiness.com/retail/n...-downtown-area

The liberal policies in this city mirrors what's going on in the Twin Cities. These same policies are on the way to ruin what once was a beautiful, quite safe city of Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Sioux Falls is a rinky-dink little city in a state with less than a million people — of course it's not going to have the same issues any major metropolitan area will inevitably deal with.

The cartoonishly dystopian picture you paint of the Twin Cities is not the reality that the vast majority of people who live here experience.

You're clueless as to what's going on. OF COURSE we can't compare the size of the cities. No comparison. What is being compared here is the direction each is going in. Sioux Falls' economy and growth is exploding vs the Twin Cities' going backwards thanks to the clueless leadership there. Come to downtown Sioux Falls on any night during the summer and stroll around until the businesses close enjoying the clean, safe atmosphere. It's a smaller Old Market from Omaha (you can look that up if you've never been there). Try doing the same by yourself in Minneapolis. Even the Nicollet Mall is having safety concerns. You can also drive home in YOUR OWN CAR w/o a concern of being hi-jacked. If a criminal is caught doing almost anything, it's a sure bet he'll be released the same day. They KNOW there's little to no repercussions. The risk/reward of criminal activity leans heavily towards reward. Thus, the demise of the Walmart in Brooklyn Park.

The Twin Cities were MUCH safer only 5 years ago.

Your sister city of San Francisco is almost beyond repair. Minneapolis in particular is starting to go in that direction. Voters in that city better get a clue but fast.

Great.... I saw recent posts in this thread, and I got my hopes up thinking maybe something good would happen with this space after Walmart's closure. Instead, I've seen nothing but a flaming war over the last several days.
