I lived in Milw in the 1960s and 70s, and have been back periodically ever since.

Ive lived in Chicago, Dayton, Peoria, Fort Lauderdale area , and now Palm Beach county Fla. Stop your whining Milwaukeeans---you have a great town---great people.

The only thing that prevents Milw from being the monster that it could be is the narrow minded politicans who have always plagued the area. Dont be afraid to take chances on improving the city---take a chance on Milwaukee. The conservative time machine of Milwaukee politicos has always been a drag on the city-----march forward and make the city great.

Reviving an old thread, I have to commend Milwaukee on it's compactness.
I know the metro consists of several surrounding counties, but from what I can tell, everything Milwaukee has to offer can be found in Milwaukee County. Jobs, shopping, dining, entertainment, culture, housing of all sorts, good schools, colleges, airport... everything. And Milwaukee County is small in area to boot.
Not to say the surrounding areas don't have something to offer or aren't nice in their own way, but it's not a necessity to venture out to those areas for day-to-day things if you don't want to.

Contrast that to Kansas City who has a similar population, where the airport is in one county, downtown, Chiefs, Royals, and most other cultural amenities are in another, while the amusement park and some casinos are in a third. A fourth county is a magnet for jobs moving out of downtown, and a popular place for families, and a fifth is where the big race track and the Wizards are located, and also is a shopping destination. Actually, mega-shopping districts are found in all five counties.
That's just the 'close-in' stuff (by KC standards). All together, there are 15 counties in KC's MSA, compared to MKE's 5, yet the population difference is just 300k.

Amen to that! Unfortunately, the political establishment in Milwaukee is at such a level of corruption that most of the people who could affect some change end up leaving the city in frustration.

What is it about George Webb that people either love it or hate it?
What people say about it reminds me a little of Waffle House, which I like. Haven't been to GW yet.

I'll add the lake front to the things I love about Milwaukee.
I'm also digging this cool weather in June, which would never happen in the other places I've lived.
I like that people around here do a lot of landscaping and gardening. It isn't just a few people, but seemingly everyone. Even some of the trailer parks have nice shrubbery.
