Does anyone know of any adoption centers or orphanages in the area? I've googled everything I can think of and have found absolutely nothing. I'd really like to volunteer at one of these places and was wondering if someone on here might know where I can find one. Any info would be much appreciated.

There are definitely a lot of needy kids out there so I give you credit for wanting to help them. I would suggest looking into volunteering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program to help kids who may be lacking parental role models: Home Page - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee

Nowadays kids who don't have families are placed in foster care, not orphanages. You could definitely try calling the Department of Children & Families to see if they have volunteer opportunities with foster kids available (their phone number is 608-267-3905 ). Here is a PDF file that has information on ideas of how to help kids in foster care: http://www.wifostercareandadoption.org/library/1196/helpachild.pdf (broken link)
Even better, you may want to consider becoming a foster parent. There is info on that at this link:Become a Wisconsin Foster Parent

Great thread.

Yeah, orphanages have been out for a while and instead children are dumped into the State's bureaucratic, dysfunctional, cash driven mess. So most of those children are already lost.

Better bet would be to try and intervene before the children become cash cow waste for Statists. Therefore I would recommend getting involved with christian based organizations doing outreach and of course, push hard for school vouchers.

The best decision is one made.
