This whole thing was a publicity stunt. They had to use a U.S. map to create the graphic (no one knows the U.S. by heart) so they decided to "screw it up" and get all kinds of attention for it. Dumbbbbb.

Technically and allegedly, it was another border dispute (with its own dandy little war) that led to the great Wolverine-Buckeye rivalry.

And now it is Michigan going up against Wisconsin. So wouldn't the cheeseheads grab of the UP give rise to an equally great rivalry: Spartans vs. Badgers?

With one company's twin ferries crossing Lake Michigan with "boat" their names, this just seems to make perfect sense.

In Madison, they will speak soon of "the team back east (lansing)"

Except that it happens ALL. THE. TIME. I have a puzzle at home of the 50 states that left the UP off entirely--just made Lakes Superior & Michigan into one ginormous body of water. A few years back, Jamie Oliver (celeb chef) started a healthy school lunch initiative, and the UP was made part of Wisconsin. The ticket website TickPick also left the UP off entirely a couple of years ago. These are not isolated at all.

I have an old map that didn't put SD in it because no one goes there and it would require another 4 pg truck
