Just when you thought no politician would risk becoming the butt of jokes by proposing a requirement that women seeking abortions undergo transvaginal ultrasounds, the Michigan Republican Party has a comedic treat for you! After all of the attention and ridicule that the Virginia Republicans received, now Michigan's Republicans want to be lampooned on The Daily Show. Michigan attempts to reignite the "War on Women"?

I am pretty indifferent to this, but I was amused by the last sentence of the article. What?

Where do they get people to say these things? Chuck E Cheese?

I'm surprised this isn't already done. Seems to me you'd want to know what is going on in there before performing a medical procedure. The only reason I can see for Democrats to be opposed to this is their continued treatment of women and children as expendable objects of mens' indiscriminate sexual urges.

Surprised that they even could say anything containing the word vagina, since the barred another State Representative from saying it

There is no medical need for transvaginal. This is just an excuse to humiliate someone and is utter B.S.

Lol.. these guys are all about keeping the government out of healthcare, unless there's a vagina involved. Then, they want in.

How long will it before they start trying to ban vibrators again?

I totally agree! I'm surprised some of these people haven't toppled over already from their excessive thinking about vaginal ultrasounds. They're obviously getting tremendous pleasure out of the idea of this procedure.

Okay, I didn't know that as I am not a gynecologist. I do know that just about anytime something is removed from inside the body, they do some type of examination to determine the internal condition. Usually some type of scope, MRI, CAT scan, etc. If I were performing abortions, I would want to know if there would be any complications before sticking a vacuum up there.

Thanks for the link. What a great story!

During a heated debate on the floor of the Michigan state House, Rep. Lisa Brown made an impassioned speech against a bill that seeks to put new regulations on abortion providers and ban all abortions after 20 weeks.

Brown, a Democrat, argued that her Jewish faith allowed for therapeutic abortions when the mother's life is in danger without regard to length of pregnancy.

"I have not asked you to adopt and adhere to my religious beliefs. Why are you asking me to adopt yours?" she said. But what came next is what got her in trouble: "And finally, Mr. Speaker, I'm flattered that you're all so interested in my vagina, but 'no' means 'no.'"

That is clearly something that is best left to the doctor and patient to decide. It's no one else's business, and certainly not the domain of a politician.
