Yeah, I’m aware of the migrants from South America. But African migrants are practically all being sent to NYC (and with reason.)
Like I said, maybe one day. Time will tell, right?

Yes, time will tell, and with NY currently declining and FL currently booming (including Miami and South FL), South FL will become just as cosmopolitian as the NYC area!

It would probably take hundreds of years of insane growth in Miami for it to be remotely comparable to NYC, and that would be assuming NYC remains stagnant or completely falls apart, which despite what some media outlets try to suggest, isn’t happening. I am there multiple time a year, and each visit shocks me with how much is going on there. It has its issues for sure, but it remains WAAAAAAY ahead of any other city on this continent, and that’s not going to change in the foreseeable future.

It remains the financial, media, fashion and theatre capital of the country, let alone home to the United Nations and residents from just about every country on the planet plus world class museums, parks and arts.

LA hasn’t surpassed NYC after many decades, neither will Miami.

I couldn't be happier knowing that Miami will never be NY. Miami has its own vibe and this city is still so very young compared to NY. It's fun watching the growth and the evolution.

The politicians in Miami have always wanted Miami to become the next NYC. I always (personally) find it dumb when leaders want X city to become like Y city... when they should focus on their own identity.

Miami already lost a lot of their identity, it's too commercialised and Americanised compared to when I first moved there. The SoCal and NYC folks that moved in + the working class leaving (and the backbone of Miami's character) is another factor in this.

I believe when I said that Miami would be almost as cosmopolitan as NYC, I was referring to raw numbers, in other words, the potential of seeing South FL reach 10+ million people, and by South FL, I'm also referring to Port St Lucie, Lee, and Collier counties as well. I didn't mean that Miami will look exactly like NYC, as each city has it's own characteristics! The DC-Baltimore CSA is a perfect example of the cosmopolitan nature, in that three major airports serve the area, as well as a commuter rail system linking both Baltimore and DC, and Baltimore having one of the largest ports in the country and DC serving as the national capital.

Miami is already the "capital of Latin America" and many American companies have a HQ in Miami to deal with it's Latin American operations, as well as international banks fro Latin America and Europe, so there's a degree of cosmopolitanism in that Latin America is mostly dependent on Miami for trade, logistics, and banking. And let's not forget that Miami was an Alpha city in 2018, along with Chicago and LA and Miami can make it to that same ranking whenever GaWC decides to make another classification sometime!

My hope is that places such as Little Havana, Liberty City, and Little Haiti stay intact, even with all the new construction in Edgewater, Omni, and Downtown. Only way that happens is to build more affordable housing via multifamily units and cooperatives within the city and throughout Miami-Dade county.

Once again, it would be laughable if Miami tried to replicate the same quantities that make up NYC! Imagine the Empire State Building, the Freedom Tower, Times Square, and the Statue of Liberty all in Miami! I don't believe that Miami will e able to handle all those major sites with only 36 sq. mi. NYC has four seasons while Miami only has two: summer and a fairly warm winter, and NYC being over 300 sq. mi. over Miami's paltry 36 sq. mi. will ensure that NYC remains the country's largest city so long as it's population remains intact, in which NYC has lost about 5% of it's population since reaching an all-time high of 8.6 million people!

NY also has a massive public transportation system that will never be replicated in Miami. This will long be a competitive advantage for NY compared to many other cities.
