Miami also had the fastest growing year-over-year increase in employment of any major metropolitan division nationwide.

The report said that in November, unemployment in the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall metropolitan division stood at 1.4 percent. Of the 38 metropolitan divisions that make up the most populated metro areas nationwide, Miami’s was lowest.
So Miami has the lowest unemployent in the nation and tied for the highest compensation growth.

Still need to know what proportion are service jobs and how many people are working two (or more jobs). Participation rate is 1.4M however, so 1.4M workers in a county of nearly 2.7M people is a red flag.

1.4M is leaps and bounds more than before the recession. To say this is a red flag shows a clear lack of understanding.

Some of the highest sectors of growth were manufacturing (6.9%) and Professional and Business Services (5.8%). Lower wage jobs like Leisure and Hospitality actaully decreased (-0.08%).

Again this has led to the highest total compensation growth in the nation.

Again the Professional and Business services sector is GROWING at 5.8%, representing some of the best growth in the nation. NY DECREASED in that sector -0.02% and grew in the lesire and hospitality.

So Miami is essentially leading the nation in growth of professional and business sector jobs is some how a poor reflection of the labor pool.

And your participation argument is sill at NY has a laborfoce of 7.2M with a population of almost 20M.

It looks like Miami has caught up to the pre-pandemic trend (as opposed to the pre-pandemic level), which is pretty good. I bet no other major metro area has done that.

Some major South Florida Layoffs in 2024.

1. Citrix (HQ'd in Ft. Lauderdale) 1K jobs cut globally (10% in Ft. Lauderdale), (not their first time either)
2. The Messenger (HQ'd in WPB): 100% laid off- 300+ people
3. Here (HQ'd in Miami) 100% laid off, ~50 people.
4. Global Benefits Group- 25+ layoffs in Miami

I did not include other layoffs in South Florida from late December or early January in different industries. The good news, however, is that compared to other cities in North America, the city and metropolitan area is not shedding jobs as fast. Some expansion plans have been delayed or scaled back, but Miami is performing relatively well. And hey, if 2024 is another good year, I might as well stay put here officially, again (I know, shocking). But I am enjoying this ew era of the city, even if I have a lot of gripes with the city, dare I say I'm excited about it.

Why don’t you move to Tampa or Orlando?

LOL... Why? Orlando has the same issues Miami has, only on a smaller scale, so he'd hate it just as much.

I can't imagine wanting to live in Tampa after having just left Montreal. It would be 10x worse than whatever he's facing in Miami.
