The once proud Pulitzer Prize winning Miami Herald is now begging the community for money to subsidize their journalism efforts.

The Herald paid circulation (some as little as $1 a week) is estimated at around 40,000. In comparison the Tampa Bay Times is over 250,000 despite being a smaller market. The ultra radical left wing editorial staff has alienated it's readers to the point where they have very little support left in the community. Herald paper boxes have disappeared and they no longer print their own paper. They now subcontract the printing to the Sun Sentinel.

Today they have hit rock bottom and are now appealing to the public to send them money to offset the loss of revenues. I don't think they will be around at this time next year.

how is a ”donation” to the Miami Herald....tax deductible?

”We hope you will consider a tax-deductible contribution to help us better serve South Florida.”

Traditional media has become a dinosaur.

1. It’s no longer cost effective to have a large national and international staff to report, photograph and print the news when information is immediately available online from eye witnesses with computer keyboards and cell phones.

2. The public wants their information for free and don’t want to be bothered by paywalls so the idea that papers can finance themselves through online subscriptions is seriously flawed.

3. It’s easier and cheaper to accept PR puff pieces and/or talking points than digging for information and publishing a more complete, rather than one-sided, story.

4. Facts have now given way to “my truth” and selective outrage and it’s become cheaper to write opinion pieces disguised as news.

Yes, print newspapers are going the way of the dinosaur. But still, that the Miami Herald has a paid circulation of 40,000 and the Tampa Bay Times has a paid circulation of 250,000 is mind blowing when you think about it.
