I’m impressed with how good the dining scene is becoming in Coral Gables:

I had a great meal last night at Thomas Keller’s newest Bouchon Bistro. Great meal all around from the home baked bread with butter to the smoked salmon appetizer, Bibb Lettuce, Steak Frites, Trout and desserts (profiterole and crème brûlée).

Other fairly recent openings include Levant (Lebanese), Shahs of Kabob (Persian), 450 Gradi (Italian), and Americana Kitchen at Loews (more planned in the hotel complex including a Sanguich de Miami)

I recently learned about the Barfogo menu at Fogo de Chao in which a 1/2 pound steakhouse quality cheeseburger with fries for $9 is offered all day, every day. Other specials as well all day, every day.

This is on top of already existing staples such as Caffe Abracci, Zucca, Portosole, Tur, Fiola, Lion & The Rambler, Bugatti, Bulla Gastrobar, Matsuri, Zitz Sum, and Pascal on Ponce.

Good to know! I don't spend a enough time in the Gables. So amazing we have all these neighborhoods and of course great weather!

Elchevere, always the "go to" poster for restaurant recs... thanks for the list! IMO Matsuri is one of the best sushi restaurants in South Florida. 90% of these are within walking distance for me! A few other fairly new or remodeled ones also come to mind in the CBD of The Gables:

Talavera Cocina Mexicana (completely remodeled last year)
Capital Burger (Owned by Capital Grille and one of the few locations in US)
Motek (Israeli/middle east - local chain but very good)
Eating House (new location)
John Martin's Irish Pub & Restaurant (completely remodeled last year)

There are lots of hole in the wall, more causal places, that are also worth visiting.

Yeah, forgot about Talavera—good and, oddly, they also own Koko in the Grove which I do not like. They also own Bakan in Wynwood (and the Bakan in Madrid).

I thought the Motek downtown was so-so but others have told me the one in Gables is much better, more of a full service restaurant.

Don’t laugh but Canton reminds me of NY greasy Chinese food that I grew up on. Very good wonton soup and egg rolls.

Been meaning to check out Frenchie’s Diner.

I haven’t cooked since 1987–without restaurants I would starve.
