Miami Beach, like many other popular tourist destinations, has seen a surge in parking fees in recent years. The uncontrolled and unregulated abuse of staggering high prices on parking lots has become a pressing issue for both residents and visitors alike.

The issue is particularly prevalent in the peak season, when parking spots are in high demand. The days where you could pay all day for $9 makes part of a fairy story. Many lots charge now exorbitant prices for parking, with fees ranging from $25 to $50 for just a few hours of parking. But last night it reached a max all time high with an incredible $75 - $100 in certain parking valet spots, or $30 and hour in some informal lots and in cash. This is just not on. This not only creates a financial burden for visitors but also makes it difficult for them to enjoy the beach and other attractions without worrying about the cost of parking, not to mention the quality of audiences' behavior is degrading the beauty of the city that once shined as the mecca for art, paintings, sculptures, photographs etc, and with the exception for some good hits Miami Beach has transmogrified into a tourist trap and a catwalk for the tasteless, cheap and nasty. In essence, it's a zoo.

The high prices once was a move by the city to avoid the undesirables and troublemakers but that is not a problem for them since they are using Uber. Someone would say they are contributing to the economy but they are not even consuming the locals and when they arrived to the city they are already drunk and high. Some restaurants are then increasing prices. A simple hamburger combo in a hash house that normally costs $12 now it's $22 without no tip, and you still have to pay in advance to avoid bill footers.

The lack of regulation on parking prices has also led to a situation where some parking lot operators are exploiting the situation to make huge profits. This is not only unethical but also illegal, as there are laws in place to protect consumers from price gouging.

Furthermore, the high parking fees have also led to a rise in illegal parking and congestion in the surrounding areas. Visitors who cannot afford the high fees may resort to parking on residential streets, which not only inconveniences local residents but also creates safety hazards.

The city of Miami Beach needs to take action to regulate parking fees and prevent the abuse of high prices. This could include implementing price caps or setting a maximum percentage increase in fees from year to year. Additionally, the city could consider providing more affordable public parking options and encouraging the use of public transportation to reduce the number of cars on the road.

In conclusion, the uncontrolled and unregulated abuse of staggering high prices on parking lots at Miami Beach is a pressing issue that needs to be addressed. The city must take action to protect both residents and visitors from price gouging and to ensure that everyone can enjoy the beach and other attractions without worrying about the cost of parking.

This is a function of the free economy. If there werent' so many people trying to park in a small space the prices wouldn' t be high.

The prices should be going up and as a result people should be considering other options. If you're a tourist you SHOULDN'T be looking for parking at the beach. You should be taking some sort of ride sharing service.

The ones you refer to are most likely privately owned lots, and the property owners can charge whatever they want. City parking is through the PayByPhone App, and those prices are more normal.

Anything that discourages people to drive is a good thing imo. Walking/biking should be encouraged as much as possible in South Beach. They sooner they start on the Metromover expansion, the better.

Oh please, we have to do something about the massive amount of cars already here as it is without the massive amount of car rentals on top of it all.
