I like this project over the proposed Metromover expansion to Miami Beach due to the Hard Rock expansion being a heavy-rail train corridor along NW 27th Ave. This expansion should've been built back in the early 2010's when it was first proposed, but now, hopefully MDC won't let go of the gas pedal on this project and expand to Hard Rock, which will help a lot of commuters keep their cars at home and opt for the alternate of taking Metrorail into Hard Rock Stadium.

Also, this helps Miami and Miami-Dade expand it's mass transit system, especially considering that Tai-Rail and Brightline are expanding their systems region wide and statewide. There's already a Metrorail connection to MIA and Metrorail serves DT Miami very well. Hopefully in the near future, Metrorail can serve Kendall, Coral Gables, University Park, Doral, Key Biscayne, and even Miami Beach and Bal Harbour because those areas in MDC do need mass transit, as those places can be high-density communities and have the potential to be if city and county planners can carefully craft Miami's mass transit system the way NYC, Boston, DC, Chicago, and SF's transit systems have been carefully crafted. More power to Miami!!!

And the most important and relevant sentence in the linked Miami Herald article: The new strategy by the administration of Mayor Daniella Levine Cava doesn’t reveal a solution for the biggest hurdle ahead: raising the billions of dollars needed to build and operate the first expansion of Metrorail since the Miami International Airport station opened in 2012.

Call me when the county gets the $2B+ needed to do this.

Yeah I don't buy any of this, just look at Miami's history with transit projects. I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

My only hope is that the project does get the needed $2B just to keep it to fruition. Miami is a fast growing city and Miami Dade does need the North Extension just to reach Miami Gardens, Hard Rock Stadium, and County Line. This plan has been set since 2010 and it would be a major blow for the county if they don’t get this project going, regardless of where the county gets the funding.

Either way, Miami Dade is going to have to let the state and the federal gov’t know that the extension is vastly important to the county’s economy and I don’t care who’s really in office at the local, state, or federal levels, this project needs to happen!

Can't get pass the Herald paywall but the Article the OP cited above said the following :

The total project investment is currently estimated at $1.9B and will be funded in part by Miami-Dade County and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

Remember Miami-Dade County has a Half cent Sales Tax dedicated solely to Transportation. They used those Sales Tax receipts to fund the Airport Metrorail extension by themselves at a cost of about half a Billion dollars at the time.
That $1.9 Billion price tag seem rather high considering that Metrorail expansion roughly costs about $100 Million per Mile and this extension is only going to be 8-10 miles long.
Also the County already owns the Right of Way so it doesn't appear that there will be any land acquisition costs if any at all.
