It's not just a lien; HOAs can actually foreclose on a condo owner and then sell the unit. And no, it won't result in "immediate" funds, but the HOA doesn't need the money immediately. For large assessments, an HOA will get a loan or a line of credit from a bank and then pay the loan back over time. It's not as if the HOA needs all the money from all of the owners all at once.

This particular case seems to be a total scam where the management company hired an engineer and wanted their sister company to perform the repairs at an inflated price. Huge conflict of interest. Sounds so Miami to me...

Welcome to Miami (and FL in general) uncapped rents and assessments... It's only gonna get worse from here. So happy that I don't have to deal with crap like this anymore
