I have to drop my MIL at Miami International on July 5th. I decided to come down on the 4th and leave on the 6th. Coming down from Central FL. If a person has a short time to see some part of Miami, what thing or things should it be? Not really into the club scene, so I’ll pass on those suggestions. More into institutional (museums / similar) or cultural attractions, good eating, and what makes the city unique. I’ll be staying in the Doral area but will have a car. Thanks in advance.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables. 83 acres of paradise.

If you've never been to Miami, then you must take a stroll on Ocean Drive and Lummus Park in South Beach. There are downsides - some homeless bums, some trashy elements, more violence than there should be, but this is THE iconic locale of Miami. The Art Deco hotels, the park, and the beach all create a beautiful setting, especially in the early morning light.

I agree on South Beach (Ocean Dr and Collins Ave especially) and Villa Vizcaya. Both are great, in very different ways. Also, definitely check out Wynwood Walls.

If there’s time, a boat tour of Biscayne Bay would be fun.

Thanks all. Great suggestions as I’ve learned more about each through the Interwebs. It’s always best to hear from the locals, though.

We’ll need to find something for us and her for the 4th, as her flight leaves very early on the 5th. Only gives us really about a half day as a family. My wife and I will have more time as the two of us after my MIL gets dropped off at the airport.
