The company I work for may let me work remotely and I've been considering the Miami area. Not expecting an ocean view sky mansion, but I don't want a dump either. Had a look around Miami Lakes and it looks like a nice area but a bit far from the beach. I'm more familiar with Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding neighborhoods since I lived there briefly a few years ago but Miami seems more affordable based on some apartment window shopping I've been doing. As with any city, Miami surely has good areas and areas to avoid. I'd really appreciate some advice from locals about their favorite neighborhoods. Looking to rent and keep it below $2,500/month. Sure would be nice if it came with a view.

Thank you for your reply. I do have a car...looking for a 2 BR so I can turn one into a home office. I live alone and, pretty much, yes to all of the above. I did find a map on this forum that color codes neighborhoods based on safe v unsafe, but I'd like to know more about why people like certain areas aside from low crime.
