Lots of (expected) not so good publicity about the race.

I know lots of people at the race, said it was poorly organised, lots of traffic concerns and it was a huge mess overall. Thankfully, the premier race in North America will be taking place next month, where more people will have the chance to enjoy it.

Spoke with several of my friends and people who went, all enjoyed the event and felt it lived up to the hype. Imperfections, including track, are expected during the inaugural event. At least 9 more shots at making improvements..

Sure hope Stephen Ross can survive financially by not making money in year 1…lol.

“ Talk about an impressive site to behold, especially for the F1 Miami GP's first time out of the gate.”

The 2022 Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix was an absolute success overall: off the track, on the track, and—key to its long-term prospects—financially. Well, at least it seemed like it was financially successful: Dolphins CEO and Miami GP boss Tom Garfinkel said his corporation won't make money on this first race, but that's typical in this wild game of hosting F1 when organizers have to spend tens or even hundreds of millions up front to put it all together.”

“ Regardless, after having a first-hand taste of the weekend that just concluded, we already anticipate returning for the 2023 edition. Well done, Miami. It was a load of fun.”

I had quite a few friends/business colleagues in attendance, religious F1 fans (borderline concerning tbh). They all rate the race 6/10. They were disappointed by the services, race was boring to them and they didn't like all the traffic it caused. They'll be going to the next few races before we all meet up at the Canadian GP. Watching the race myself, I'd give it a C+/B-

I've heard the track was subpar by a lot of Formula 1 fans but overall, the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami does give the region a huge boost. Wish my old city could've hosted a Formula One and I believe there was something similar that was supposed to happen in it's downtown but the residents railed against it. Hopefully Miami and South FL grows in part because Miami seems to be a sportsman paradise in comparison the the old, stagnant, and depressing city that Philadelphia has devolved into.

Exciting! Heard good things from my friends that went. The first event will always have hitches, but overall screaming success. Good job, Miami!

Lol.... it was far from a screaming success. A lot of sponsors are not returning next year, the track was subpar (not only the quality but the layout was actually boring) and the whole event was rather tacky.

Another positive grade for the inaugural Miami F1 (from a non-Miami based source):

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...VL6jYsThw.html

“ Winner: Miami Gardens
Miami Gardens delivered on the hype, producing a 19-turn Grand Prix track that kept the drivers on their toes for the inaugural race in Miami. The facilities were impressive, too, with guests receiving a typical American entertainment package, from the pretend marina to the beach club.

The celebrity count was potentially the highest F1 has ever seen, with the basketball legend Michael Jordan joined by David Beckham, Serena and Venus Williams, LeBron James and Pharrell Williams just a few of the big names in town on race day, while former first lady Michelle Obama was at the track on Saturday. It was the biggest show in town – and delivered a fantastic spectacle.”

The celebrity turnout was impressive by itself but also considering Miami F1 went head to head with The Kentucky Derby this past Mother’s Day weekend. Also in attendance not mentioned above were Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Bad Bunny, Michael Strahan, Ashton Kutcher.

Disagree about the celebs, Canadian GP attracts much more (not only at the race, but downtown they're everywhere) and Monaco is the BIG one (the amount of celebs and powerful people there was bonkers). But judging by what I'm seeing online, a lot of mixed reviews for the first ever F1 race in Miami. Lots of 5-6/10, which is what I was expecting to be honest. It's the Miami way, overhype and overpromise for mediocrity.

What major event does Montreal F1 go up against same time as the race?….what credible sources (I.e. MotorTrend, etc), not friends, have given the overall event a 5-6 out of 10? Heck, I don’t need F1–I have run into Jeter, Lebron, KD, Anthony Davis, Ronnie Lott, Alonzo just in my gym on a regular day (would’ve added Giselle and her football hubby but they closed it that morning just for them). Fist bumped your buddy Drake at a Heat game.

Is top 3-4 luxury real estate market in the US, top 2-3 nightlife in the country, top 3 shopping in North America, top art event in North America, most hosted Super Bowls, largest boat show(s), attracting Jean-Georges, Thomas Keller, Daniel Boulud, Jose Andres, 2-3 dozen top NYC and European restaurant outposts, etc mediocre?…I guess it is if one cannot afford to take advantage of what the metro has to offer. Some people like/love Miami until they don’t.

Back to the event, yet one more review from a credible-not anecdotal—source along with the top finishing drivers:

Long mooted and desired, Miami’s first ever Grand Prix didn’t disappoint, at least in terms of hype, spectacle and celebrity endorsement.”

https://www.topgear.com/car-news/for...mportant?amp=1

“I think it was an incredible atmosphere,” Verstappen said. “I mean, it was really incredibly well organized. Really nice to see that. It’s not easy to put an event on like this. But yeah, they did an amazing job, and I had a lot of fun, driving around”

“I think it was a mega event, put together… not easy on the first event to put such a well-organized venue,” Carlos Sainz said.”
