Hey guys, was wondering if anyone here could help me with an idea I have..

I'm curious as to who controls the land under the Metrorail tracks, specifically in Coral Gables on the long strip between Ponce and US1. This land seems perfect for urban infill and transit-oriented development, especially near UM and the University station. Right now the land is only used for the bike path, which could easily be preserved if some construction was added.

Obviously Coral Gables is stupidly strict, but why couldn't this land be used as student-geared housing (no traffic concerns, especially with Metrorail right there) and retail, similar to some of the properties across the street on Ponce (Titanic Brewery, All Canes, etc). Some street-facing buildings next to the Metrorail tracks could really add life to the area directly adjacent to UM -- not to mention, add some aesthetic quality to the "City Beautiful".... who wants to look at empty parking lots and crappy landscaping?

Just guessing but the land is likely part of the allotted right of way for the rail system.

The Miami parking mafia will demand so many parking spots for whatever you businesses or residences you build, it wouldn't look very much like transit oriented development. In Miami, even Camillus House requires large parking garages...

Besides, there is so much more available land that could be used for infill development, as well as potential with better integrating existing transit stops with the surrounding communities (let's start with pedestrian overpasses....please!).
