Hello everyone,

I don't post much on this forum but do read a lot of them. Hope you can help.

I can do just about everything around the house but central a/c is not one of them. My coil freezes up and it's because a leak that the system has. I get it recharged and it last a while but with the recent high temps, it doesn't last much. I'm thinking of replacing the unit. Its about 14yrs old and never gave us any problems. My go to person for recharge is no longer available.

Could you recommend someone who is trust worthy? I just don't have any faith. Most are fly by night, do sloppy work, promise everything. Once the install is complete you're on your own.

Some companies want to over charge everything.

Please help...

Thanks. Joe

Joe,

I am by no means associated with Angie's List but last I check it was about $30ish bucks a year. You can read and write your own reviews on good trustworthy company.

I have personally used them for electricians, mechanics, plumbers. Be sure to sign up for "Big Deal" deals. This way when something like air conditioning pops up, you can snag a good deal and get a quality tradesman to your house.

I have personally been burnt by A/C companies. That being said, I recommend someone who has a license, been in business for 10+ years, is insured, will pull permits (if necessary).

When I first bought my house I replaced or installed for that matter my outside, inside, and air ducts. It ran me about 5k.

In terms of the company I used
Alaska Breeze - Out of Business
Then I used All Year Cooling for a service call than ran me $400 bucks. The guy suckered us into a warranty deal, yada, yada, yada. Don't trust anyone from Craigslist. Do your research via Angie's List. If I come across a good, honest company. I will be sure to spread the word. In the mean time, if you need more info in terms of price, unit I used, etc. Give me a PM, I track all my household expenses in a binder and spreadsheet to a dime.
