I've just gotten into college football so I'm a total novice.
A friend of mine is a hardcore Alabama Crimson Tide fan, so I wonder if the Canes ever play the Crimson Tide at Sun Life?

Or are they in different conferences?

No they don't normally play one another since they aren't in the same conference* or aren't an in-state rivalry. The only way they would meet is if they met in the national championship.

*Bama is in SEC (southeastern conference)
UM is in ACC (Atlantic coast conference)

Thanks!

UM doesn't have the courage to play any tough out-of-conference games. They won't even play UF any more.
If you are getting in to college football for the first time, don't get behind UM. They are a thugish private school in Coral Gables and the only reason 99% of the non-student, non-alumni fans root for them is because they have the word "Miami" in their name. Root for FIU or FAU instead if you want to support a South Florida team. Sure, they are not as good but they are younger teams. Also, as if one needed another reason to hate UM, the reason FIU wasn't allowed to have a football team for most of the past 20+ years is because of an agreement they had to reach with UM in order for Um to drop their opposition to FIU being founded. UM didn't want another school recruiting in their backyard.

So lets see, playing Ohio the number 2 team in the country thats being scared. UM has had a hard non-conference schedule the past few years.
UM is a fun school to root for. FIU and FAU will never become good they are in small conferences. FIU is looking better though and being in Miami you never know they have a shot in 15-20 years of being decent. UM also has the most amount of players in the NFL.

Are you serious! You got some type of hatred for the UM's? The REAL reason the Canes don't play the Gators is because Miami used to beat then senseless back in the 80's. The Gators could never forgive them for beating them so bad. They thought they were running up the score. NOW that the Gators have winning teams and they realize that dominating your opponent is how you stay on top in the BCS they see what Miami was doing. That is the real reason why the Canes don't play the Gators!

You think they care about FAU or FIU drafting out of their backyard? Since the 80's when Miami won Florida's 1st National Football Champs by recruiting locally UF&FSU have been recruiting of of Miami. Both those schools together finally two years ago matched UM number of championships.

If your a real football fan you'd realize that Florida schools take turns at winning chanpionships and being contenders.

This. Miami is not scared to play Florida, it's the other way around.

Why don't a SEC team play a cold-weather contender in november. That what I want to see happen. Go to Michigan or Ohio State in Nov or Dec.

You have no clue as to what you are posting here ... UM is a superb university and with academic standards as high or higher than UF or FSU ... also UF did not want to renew their annual rivalry with UM it is not the other way around . If you are calling it "thuggish " because of a few of its players than you would have to call all major university football programs "thuggish " including UF & FSU ... also if you want to see some thugs go to the campus at the University of Houston and hang around there for a while . Your hatred of everything Miami is almost pathological and to bash the footbal program which is on its way back is unfair ... by the way watch the Hurricanes slap the FSU Noles this weekend ... it will not be pretty and this from a fan who likes FSU .
