Even though I've been a lifelong Marylander I can't say that I know much about Cumberland.

It's "a bit far" even for a day trip and I only recall walking around the downtown (or something similar to one) one time probably close to 20 years ago. We might stop for gas here on the way to visit family in Ohio, but that's about my extent of 1st hand knowledge. My brother is a Frostburg alum, but he was shy back then and didn't get out much so even he doesn't know much of the city despite living fairly close for a few years.

What can some of the locals tell me about Cumberland? I'd be curious to hear from people who live in the city itself (especially so), Frostburg, anywhere in the western 3 counties or that northern part of WV and the southwest corner of PA. Even if you moved away but maybe grew up there I'd be curious to hear your take on Cumberland.

I'm considering a weekend get away to Cumberland, we've been pretty much everywhere else in the general area. West we are interested in staying downtown, any recommendations and would it be a good place for a get away?

I've always enjoyed the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. We've always just done it as a day trip so, sorry, can't help much with any accommodations info.

Downtown is pretty chewed up right now, still opening back up Baltimore St., so construction makes it hard to get around.

The most convenient hotel is the Fairfield Inn, located at Canal Place. You might want to look into a some of the Air BnBs in the west side neighborhood too. I know there are several close to the Allegheny Trail. The train is running, and most businesses downtown are still open, you have to walk around the construction to get to them.
