What are the fairly safe neighborhoods that has not overpriced properties in MD?
================================================== =====

Thanks for your replies to my threads. I know some folks in this forum live in good neighborhood and commutable distance to DC.

As I find lot of properties coming back to market, I am looking to buy a house for owner occupation.

I am looking for fairly safe neighborhoods and commutable to DC for work.

The house spec : 3BR, 1.5+bath, with Natural gas heat/cooking, good neighborhood and LOW HOA fees

What are the zips / neighborhoods add in my search?

I am asking this for my homework/legwork , so I can some idea to talk with Realtor.

What are the web resources to get these details ?

Thanks for sharing.idea

You're holding the wrong end of the stick.
Property choice starts and ends at affordability: Price vs Income
Determine what you can actually afford... get YOUR number.

You can enter that into any of the search tools to see just how many (or few)
choices are available in the areas (zip codes) where you would prefer to live.

Then you expand the search radius until you begin to have some choice.
Can you find any work out there?

Commutable to DC + safety and "overprice" are basically mutually exclusive.

What's your expected price range anyway? B/c something that's relatively not "overprice" can still be VERY expensive. i.e. the more outer counties (Calvert/Frederick or heaven forbid Carroll County) has SFHs in 500k-600k range, but that could still be "overprice" for the commute distance.

You may not like to hear this, but all good neighborhoods in the DC area range from very expensive to outrageously expensive.

That is the game being played here.

If you go down in price, then you will go down in quality in some way.

Where in DC? Will you use MARC, Metro, Van Pool, drive yourself? What is your pain point for time? 30 minutes, 1 Hr, 2 Hr?

Those answers will put parameters on your choices

I was also going to say places like Boonsboro, Brunswick, or Middletown out in FredCo myself. Either that or a place like Dunkirk in Calvert Co.

But of course, it highly depends on what the OP consider "commutable" distance. Even further out in places like Charles Town/Ranson WV or Martinsburg WV are technically "commutable" (I mean, Martinsburg does have MARC going to it...)

It depends MORE on what the OP considers to be an "affordable" price ...
and even more critically on what their mortgage lender does.
