What is Kent Island like, specifically the areas near to Annapolis?

Would it be convenient to live there and go into Annapolis for dinner, etc.? Is the bridge always an issue (traffic)?

Is there anything on Kent Island or would living there mean traveling across the bridge daily for groceries, health care, general shopping, vet care, etc.?

Commute is not a factor - work from home.

Kent Island is very close to Annapolis, as you can probably see on the map. The Bay Bridge is the only way to between the two places and during certain times of the year it can take an hour or more to go to/from. In the summer, eastbound on Thursdays and Fridays in the afternoon is usually slow. Same on Sundays going westbound. One has to just plan around what are the busy times.

For retail shopping, Annapolis definitely has more. Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Target, Sams Club, many supermarkets, the Annapolis mall, Anne Arundel Medical Center, restaurants, downtown historic Annapolis, you get the idea. Kent Island has much fewer supermarkets, BigLots, but no big box stores, plenty of waterfront restaurants, some doctors. There is a vet on the island and a major shopping outlet.

The Kent Island area is definitely more limited for retail but its more beach like, more scenic and more relaxing.

The car ride isn't long. Depending on what you need, you may only go to Annapolis a few times a month or less for major shopping or entertainment.

Markets and Stores on the Eastern Shore

You'll have to wade through the above.

In all honesty, even Kent Island is somewhat isolated and rural, although not as much as other parts of the Shore, so if a suburban lifestyle with shopping experiences is at or near the top of your list of Must Haves you might be better served to look elsewhere.

We definitely don't want rural and although we're no big shoppers we do run find ourself doing runs to Lowes/Home Depot, Whole Foods, Costco often. Also worried what would happen if pet got sick after vet closes - being able to get over the bridge in time. Or during the day if the pet need more advanced care.

Thanks for the info.

I had 3 different friends who lived on Kent Island. They all loved it but there are trade offs. The saying goes "if you forgot it, forget it". What that means is depending on where you live you can't just run up to the store as it's a bit of a drive. Again depending on where you live. All 3 lived several miles south of 50 on down route 8.

You also have to plan for bridge traffic. You may not be able to just pop over to Annapolis for dinner on a summer Friday night as the ride back will be brutal.

In all honesty given what you have posted I'm not sure it's for you.

Thanks. Doesn't sound like it.
