As someone who lived in Silver Spring for nearly 20 years decades ago I would have never thought it would show up on so many lists today. We moved right as the big revitalization was starting, obviously it worked.

I've got to go but I'll just say that my list starts with Annapolis, it's what Maryland is all about.

That's funny because I was reading these posts thinking of the exact same towns and then I saw your post.

Ocean City (My stated home, some of the best offshore fishing without a passport, big tourist destination turns into quiet small town)
Annapolis (can't believe I'm picking a place from that side of the bridge, but Annapolis is MD and that city would fit in fine on this side of the state.)
Berlin (Quaint small town covers a large area. My address is actually Berlin)
St. Michaels
Easton

LaPlata seems like a strange choice to me.

1. Annapolis
2. Frederick
3. Silver Spring, the New Silver Spring
4. Easton
5. Berlin

It is your quintessential So. Maryland Town , it was even nicer before the tornado tore it a part.

5. Frostburg - College town meets old mining town. If the weather was better, the rank would be higher.
Fredneck used to be cool until DC sprawl took it over.
Looks just like any other cookie cutter place in Fairfax County now.

My view, you have to get on I-68 before it gets nice.
