Snow is pretty routine in Maine, but according to the NH Homeland Security office Maine and NH are going to get the biggest storm in 30 years this weekend. They base this on the NWS forecast out of Gray, Maine. I guess it won't be as bad as the blizzard of 62 which some here remember. I figure this weekend and next week deserve a separate thread aside from how cold it gets on the coast etc.

Back in February this year we got 41 inches, but there was no wind. This time we'll have winds up to 50 MPH.

MILK, BREAD AND EGGS! It's French toast time.

From the New Hampshire Homeland Security Emergency Management email list:

The NH HSEM Field Services has issued a Winter Storm Warning
To ALL Emergency Management Directors:

” There is a significant winter storm predicted for this weekend. According to the NWS in Gray, Me. - “this is a very unusual event … we have not seen one like this in 30 years.” This will be an event that is expected to bring significant snow and wind for the entire state. Gusts of wind may be up to 50 mph.

There will be a smaller system moving into NH very late Thursday night / early Friday a.m. bringing 3-5” of snow. The main storm will be moving in Saturday afternoon and possibly last until Tuesday, with the storm stalling off the coast. The weather models are still somewhat confusing so actual amounts of snowfall (mostly dry snow) are difficult to predict and range anywhere from 6-14” to possible 20-40” further north. Predictability will be more certain tomorrow.

There is also great concern regarding possible coastal flooding.

We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated. HSEM would advise all communities to begin referring to their emergency plans and begin preparedness activities.”

My official guess for snow amount in my area is about 6 inches...

The last 2 storms were suppose to be 6-8 and as it got closer and closer it kept going down...we ended up with little more then a dusting to 2 inches.

I'm kind of ready to just get absolutely slammed with snow but at the same time I don't want to deal with it...I kind of want to get that first real big snow storm and just get it over with, cause the anticipation is killing me.

I've heard through my Maine Emergency Management buddy that it's been downgraded a dite to somewhere around 12 - 18 inches in the Bangor area, and spread over a 72 hour period would make it "no big deal."

Now, of course as we all know, Maine winters are anything but truly predictable, so perhaps we'll be tunneling out the door by the time it's over (especially up north).

Time will tell, so per usual, it's best to just be prepared.

Per the channel 2 weather in Bangor the southwest and midsections are supposed to get the most snow, up to 24" in some areas. Here in the crown they're predicting around 12' or so.

I predict 18-20 inches for the weekend totals in the Lincoln area! Cupboards are full, wood is in and Grandsons are thrilled. They had a ball today out in the snow sledding. How three little boys can eat two pounds of bacon (with french toast and scrambled eggs) for breakfast astounds me!

They are fueling up for the blizzard. It's a primordial instinctive survival reaction among young males.

On 29December we reported 8 inches of snow, 1.93 inches of precipitation; which gave us a total of 8 inches of snow on the ground.

Today [1January] we reported 3 inches of new snow, 0.15 inches of precipitation; which gives us a total of 8 inches of snow on the ground.

We didn't even get that, barely a trace here. The local weather, channel 8, is only calling for a total of 6 inches out of this so called storm They're more worried about blowing snow now rather than alot.
