You know you're in Maine when tourists marvel at the low costs of Lobsters on the menu and they're still $26.00 a piece!

This is my Maine dilema:

You know you live in Maine, when you share the same zip code with another town and the same 3 digits of your phone number with a different town.

My zip is the same as Waite and Danforth. Once in a while a company will ship something to Danforth, 04492 and it's gone forever. Five towns have 796. We can call only 796 and 427 locally. Remember back when you could literally dial the last five numbers and get your girlfriends on the phone?

We lived in Woolwich for a year when I was 10 and we only had to dial the last 4 numbers! When our house was finished and we moved to Topsham we had to dial the last 5, phew, what a hardship!

sometimes it's hard to buy on line cause when you add the zip.. it gives you a town and you can't change it.. so you have to end up calling in.

I remember living in Calais, and I would dial 4 numbers only in our area.

You know you live in Maine when the UPS guy stops by your house to ask for directions.

True Story. we were standing out front of the house a week or so ago when the UPS truck pulls in. I'm thinking I don't remember ordering anything, must be something Laura bought. Driver jumps out makes a comment about getting the boat out, which turned into a discussion about the new one he bought last year and that led to fishing. Closely followed by an argument of how good/bad the bird hunting was last Fall (one of the neighbors down the road out shot him on a trip last year). After a bit he mentioned he has to get going because it is getting late, so up he hops and drives off. Me and the 3 neighbors who were there figured he just stopped to talk at the end of his run, when back he drives, gets out looking goofy and mentioned he was looking for a road and forgot to ask. None of us had heard of it either so we started guessing what road they might mean. Honestly it was, "Could it be the one Stumpy lives on, that is way out?" "Could it be the one where Arsehole shot the Moose last year without me?" "Bet it is the one Alan lost his tire on the frost heave this year."

Never did figure it out, even pulled out the laptop and looked it up online with no luck.

Could it have been in another town? As in some of the previous discussions??

HAHA- we used to only dial the 4 digits, too- and my parents number was very easy for small kids to dial when they were playing with the phone (all numbers on the top row of the phone pad).. and (another you know it's a small town when..) my mother would talk to the toddler callers for a minute or two and figure out who they were.. it was never very hard to figure it out! Oh..you're at Mimi's house.. Does your Mimi have a blue car or a red car? Do you have a dog named Susie? Ahh, I miss the toddler calls.

You know you live in Maine when... you get a call after 9:00pm and it's someone who just drove by on their way home and saw that you had left your interior light in your car outside in the driveway, and thought you should know.
