Hi all,

we are relocating from the United Kingdom to Louisville in July 2010. We are originally from Johannesburg South Africa but have been living in the UK for the last 6 years. I have visited the USA once in my life so have no idea what lies ahead!

We are a family of 4 looking to buy a house in the East, areas i like are Lake Forest, Landis Lakes, Polo Fields and Locust Creek.

I am looking for a newer modern house 4 beds around $450 - $500. My children will be attending Christian Academy Louisville. My husband will be working for a company situated on Blakenbaker Pkway.

Any advise on the suburbs i mentioned and what is the school reputation like that we have chosen?

all replies will be very appreciated!

Being that you have chosen to enroll your children in CAL, Lake Forest is a great location with great convenience to Blankenbaker Pkwy. I believe Lake Forest is an obvious choice for you with the criteria you shared.

All of the neighborhoods you've mentioned are very nice and will give you easy access to CAL and Blankenbaker Pkwy, with Polo Fields and Locust Creek being the farthest away (10-15 min to CAL and 20-25 min to Blankenbaker Pkwy). Polo Fields would be last on my list unless you are looking in the Estates section and want a pretty large yard. Lake Forest is the oldest neighborhood and some houses will be outdated, but most are renovated. Landis Lakes and Locust Creek are the newest subdivisions. You may also want to check out Willowgate in Middletown, it is between Blankenbaker Pkwy and CAL, so probably a 10 minute drive to each. Louisville Subdivisions & Communities - Willowgate I've heard mixed things on CAL, I believe it is a good school, but some of the other private schools in the area are much better for around the same price, or less. I think they push religion more at CAL, which is fine but just be ready for that. They have done a lot of adding on and renovations in the past few years and it is a very nice campus. Most of the people I know who have kids there are very friendly and nice but there are some who are very snobby, but you get that anywhere.

Thanks for the replies to my post. It is very helpful to get insider information! My husband is in Louisville this weekend and will be driving around getting a feel of the place. It is quite different looking online as to actually being there.

Garages are NOT included.

However, don't buy a home based on price per square foot. Use the $/sq ft as a guide, but there are too many variables such as value of the lot, and other home features.

I have fallen in love with a House in Glen Lakes however it does not seem to have a swimming pool/clubhouse, can anyone enlighten me? I would really like the swimming pool as we have kids.

Thanks
