For a small town try New Iberia. New Iberia's main street is very nice (Voted as one of America's five best main streets in 2005; First city in Louisiana to have that honor). Nearby attractions are Avery Island and Jefferson Island. Here are some photos of the city - forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=168527 (Sorry I can't seem to get the html right for the url - Just copy and past it into the browser)

And from what I understand, it has the largest collection of Remingtons in the US. That is Frederick Remington the famous painter/sculptor of the Western US.

I feel like this, there are way too many wonderful things to do here. But I will say that I've been wanting to go back to Madisonville, and just sit outside Morton's, drinking a cold beer and watching the bridge open and close so that the boats can pass underneath. What a great way to spend an afternoon.
