Any advice would help! Thank you!
To emochu,
,First I want to thank you for your military service. Protecting the very rear ends of Gretna at our local Air Force Base is probably not going to get you anywhere with Gretna on this ticket. Maybe, you could contact Joe Marino and ask his opinion. He is a Gretna City Council and an attorney. Give it a shot! Maybe, let us know what he said. Otherwise, you will have to bite the bullet and pay!

Go appeal it. if there are others cars around you in the video, it may be dismissed. If you don't live in Gretna, I wouldn't bother paying it, regardless.

unpaid tickets come back to haunt you when you need to register it again to drive.

Aiding and abetting someone charged with a traffic violation indicates you support others driving fast through this area.

Would you also offer emotional and financial assistance to anyone harmed by vehicles driving too fast in this area?

The person who said tickets can come back to haunt is spot on. And when you least expect it. Maybe the rules have changed but ultimately an unpaid ticket will result in a warrant for arrest being posted. Say you get pulled over in West Texas. The officer runs your info and finds there is an active warrant. Your life just got way more complicated and expensive. Pay the ticket and make sure it is applied to your ticket.

This is true of tickets issued by police officers directly. The above is NOT TRUE of camera tickets, at least in NOLA/Gretna. If you have business with the City of Gretna, they MAY come back to haunt you, but there is no warrant issued and you will not be arrested, if you don't pay camera tickets. In NOLA, if you don't pay camera or parking tickets, your vehicle may be immobilized with a boot. The city has vehicles with license plate scanners that compare the LP numbers with those that have unpaid parking / camera tickets. I don't know if Gretna has this technology.

We visited Gretna 2 weeks ago and today received a robo-ticket in the mail: $120 for driving 8 miles over the speed limit. That is ridiculous to me, and a definite deterrent for out-of-state visitors to go there. They said we were going 33 in a 25 mph zone. There were other cars in the picture, but I don't know if that would make a difference.

If you're from out of the state, just toss the ticket in the garbage and forget about it. If they send collections after you, do some research on how to write a letter demanding proof of debt - if they can't prove you owe it, it's noncollectable (this has worked for me in the past, with no mark on my credit).

In any case, don't pay these extortion fees. Ever.
