My ex-GF would state that she was a Creole of Color (well, not in that terminology---she would just say Creole), and so began an interest in reading about their "culture" (I hate to generalize, since there are probably many subcultures under the larger Creole culture).

I read that Los Angeles has the 2nd largest Creole of Color population in the United States outside of New Orleans (it was in one of the Creole of Color websites...LouisianaCreoles?), and noticed that many black Angelenos have French and Spanish surnames (Augustine/Delacroix/Legaux/Ferreira), unlike most other areas of the nation. My ancestry is rooted in Mississippi, and we tend to have Anglo-Saxon slave surnames, much like the rest of Black America. There are also many Creoles of Color in the Bay Area of California, particularly in San Francisco, if I may recall.
True! The majority of "creoles" and black people that left Louisiana during the Great Migration (1940's-1970's) moved to California.

I would say that the main difference is , more people claim to be Cajun , than claim to be Creole . Most of them are neither .

My Family emigrated from FeCamp, Normandie to Trios-Rivieres,Quebec. As far as I can tell, That was part of Acadia at that time. But, Can I claim myself Cajun? Also, can you really be accepted as Cajun by the locals if your not born in South Lousiana? Just Curious.

Trois-Rivières was actually part of New France. Acadia was further to east, mainly present-day Nova Scotia.

Yeah I'm also wondering this, I would really like to move there someday, but don't want to go where the locals don't accept outsiders (though I am acadian w/french surname) It's just that I've always lived in east TX because thats where my pop came to work and raise his family...

I've often heard Creole referred to the first settlers. It was first used to identify Creole from later arrivals. The exiled Cajun people were deported from what is now present day Nova Scotia, and eventually came to call Southwest Louisiana home.
