This has really been annoying me to no end. This is this the atom smasher/super collider that they are talking about, no?
Brookhaven Lab's superpowerful, $912M microscope -- Newsday.com (http://www.newsday.com/news/local/ny-libnl0212583307apr01,0,4282663.story?track=rss - broken link)
If so, why do they keep calling it an "xray" , "light source" or "worlds most powerful microscope"? Just say what it is!
Talk about putting lipstick on a pig. Newsday has completely gone down the tubes in my mind. Sheesh, did they pink slip all the seasoned investigative journalists and hire some college students to replace them??
Seriously, whats the big deal? It's a machine. Its not like the world is going to be over and they dont want you to know about it. It is a machine AND THEY DID SAY THE NAME and they tell you what it does.
If you want more information that Newsday did not give, how about you just call Brookhaven Lab and ask them instead of bashing on Newsday. Apparently, they cant please everyone even though they work hard.
I dont understand why 90% of this forum has to be so negative about things. Get over it.

Sometimes it pays to do one's own research and learn something before posting, as opposed to relying on the media to feed you whatever the pablum du jour is.
aTypicalLIer is correct. NSLSII is not an 'atom smasher'.
For once, Newsday's pig has no lipstick. However, I would still caution people who get their 'news' from it. It's a rag mag, nothing more. Want real news, listen to NPR.

Couldn't agree more!
