I am moving to Bellport, LI in a few weeks, I stumbled across this site while looking for more info. I am curious about the schools, and the community.
I am moving from Georgia, so I hope I can adjust well, I have heard it is a different culture up there. My finace is from LI, so he will help me out some, but as far as school info for my two children in Elementary school he has no clue.
Bellport...ah...it's in Suffolk County. Have never been to GA before but from what I've heard I think it culture might be diff. from from GA.
Depends on where you at, there are good and pretty bad area in bellport. I seldom go there. I think some send their kids to bellport schools district and some send to longwood schools district. Don't know about it now but Longwood used to be a good school district. Hope it help.
Good luck.

I heard the same thing about Bellport, good and bad areas. If you want to get information about the schools that are mentioned above, go to www.mlsli.com and somewhere on that site it gives you the school report cards.
For years, it was depressed and always seemed to have the car accident or drug bust that made the paper.
More recently, as people move further east (because everything west of Bellport has skyrocketed: 90% jump in 5 years) the town has become more -- for lack of a better word -- gentrified.
But believe me, it still has a long way to go before Starbucks moves in. nonetheless, it's on the upswing, slowly. You should see your values improve. (Property, that is : )
Bellport is bad and so is the schools it self. I have family who lives there and I would not reccomend, bellport, or any of its surrounding areas to anyone.
I would generally look elsewhere besides Bellport. There is a large concentration of forclosed HUD homes for sale there which should give you an idea as to the area. About the only good thing is the alleged "Outlets" (which are only brand specific retail stores if you ask me, no great deals there). If you had no kids, I would go for it, if only to build some equity in a home but since you have kids....look elsewhere or to alternative schools such as Montessori or Catholic Schools.
It is either filthy rich with historic houses in the Village of Bellport. (For example, people like Mick Jagger and Isabella Rossilini have houses there.)
OR it is North Bellport: dirt poor with drugs, gangs, welfare, section 8, HUD foreclosures, prostitutes walking down the main drag (Station Road, which goes through Bellport north-south) and pawn shops and liquor/lotto stores (on the east-west main drag Montauk Highway).
There is a small middle class enclave in the Village where my mom used to live. Hopefully that is where you are headed, but the school thing is still iffy.
I am not sure about the makeup of the elementary and middle schools, but all these kids mingle together in the one high school ... Bellport High School (except the rich kids whose parents send them to private school naturally so they can get into Ivy League colleges).
