When I drove on the Robert Moses Causeway the other day, I thought that the parallel bridges over the Great South Bay have resemblances to the fallen Francis Scott Key Bridge. I have been researching the different types of truss bridges. Obviously, the Great South Bay bridges are not endangered by huge, weighty container ships. Also obvious is that the triangles formed by girders are strong. Would some readers describe for me the differences between the Great South Bay bridges and the struck bridge over the Patapsco River? Thank you.

You're probably right, but most bridges have protection from these kinds of things happening. It's hard to believe that this vital port hadn't been upgraded long ago.

Bridge itself? No but a simple bollard barrier like the ones installed around the bridge supports in Tampa after that one collapsed after a collision would have prevented this. It’s crazy that bridge didn’t have it

Sunshine skyway is still scary today. Cars get tossed around in the winds. It’s actually in st Pete not Tampa. The old one is now a fishing pier. I’ve been over it countless times.
