I live in Islip since 2003. I like it. I don't have kids so I don't know much about the schools. In General the area is very nice.
I am actually in Islip Manor. I am about 5 min from Dangs BBQ in Islip.

Stay away from Central Islip. East aisles is ok but watch out where it borders on?

East Islip is great. Islip Terrace is the community between EI and CI.

All the Islips are good aside from central. Just beware of the school districts if you live near the borders. Other than that, stereotypical standard LI communities. I would have no problem living in any of them(besides CI).

West Islip, Islip and East Islip all are solid. Central Islip is no bueno if you have kids and want public schools.

There are about a half dozen nice condo complexes around the Ducks stadium now.

Islip Manor, West Islip and East Islip are all very good areas. Crime happens in every city in State. You will be fine in either of these three areas. Also there is nothing strange going on in any of these towns.

I'll say it again. Nothing wrong with Islip, East Islip & West Islip. Don't believe everything you hear from other posters. If it's so bad in Suffolk county we might as well live in a cave.

As far as I know, Islip is pretty decent. I especially like the downtown area along Montauk Highway, it is almost like living in a small town.

West Islip and East Islip are all pretty good. So is a smaller area called Islip Terrace, which is part of the East Islip school district so it does not get mentioned that much.
