I’m sure a buncha people did.
Fear of the prices going bananas probably made a few people make a poor decision.
I don’t know if the oil companies still offer it, but back in the day I used to sign up for the variable price with cap.

If your locked in high you can gamble and opt out and cancel for a penalty. Mine was maybe 600 last I checked. Usually not worth it though.
