Yes, this is an interesting story of the chronology - but it's a jaw-dropping account of police indifference and corruption that should be chilling to everyone. I like to imagine that we're blessed with good investigative journalists, but maybe that doesn't apply once you get a few miles farther out.
The Botched Hunt for the Gilgo Beach Killer
The story they tell — at times self-serving and at other times soul-searching — demonstrates, inadvertently and otherwise, how institutional rot helped contribute to the delays and paralysis of the investigation. What started out as indifference and apathy soon curdled into obstinance, willful ignorance and corruption. From the moment those women were found at Gilgo Beach, the law-enforcement culture of Suffolk County seemed so preternaturally ill suited to handle this case that a killer was allowed to roam free. Which was all the more galling, given what we know now — that everything the police needed to solve the case, they had almost on Day 1.

No, but people still finding them. And the police never did a proper search. They don't want to wade through those LI swampy areas.
If you want to go look for them, your best bet is to search marsh all along Gilgo beach during low tide, but it is a lot of area. You'd need a boat and a drone at least. Most of the bodies were never recovered to this day, just body parts from multiple people.
