Wow this was not expected at all. From what I heard it’s extremely likely Ed Romaine is going to win county exec, and Romaine will not keep Harrison on and he knows it so he’s resigning.

Rumor: This is what I heard on the radio in the middle of the night. He is/was having an affair with some police woman and the rank and file are ready to out the whole thing and it is an effort to make it easier on her and the family.

Stay tuned.

Hooo boy….

Wow he already quit! Via Newsday:

Reached by telephone late Thursday night, Harrison told Newsday he tendered his resignation before the election to give the new county executive the freedom to select his own commissioner. He said he has no immediate plans for the future, other than spending time with his family, but said he would work in policing again.

Yeah not buying this at all. Just quitting this fast with no notice, no way this is for the reason above.

Edit: he initially told Newsday today was his last day now he says it’s sometime in December. Weird.

Harrison initially said Friday would be his last official day with the department. But Friday morning he told Newsday he will stay on until some time in December, adding he did not yet know who will be acting police commissioner.

.
He was probably the only honest one they have had in decades. Not part of the whole Burke-Spota contingent.

there has to be more to this story. When they leave this abruptly with no helicopter send offs and going away parties its never a good sign.

did he find something out about giglo that they don't want out there?

Scandal inside the department?

The new county exec angle and a love affair seems low on the probability scale. Hell Burke was having an "affair" with prostitutes and "losing" his firearms with them for YEARS and that didn't cause him to get booted.
