I don't know it was before I met him. Sometime in the early 1990's.

Default Town House

I'd always been told the Town House was a mob business, but I didn't know the history of the arrest and ties to the place. There was a fence business that was also rumored to be mob-run, and my family was a bit scared of doing business with them. We had a friend who bought a beautiful home in Long Beach (NY) on the water. There was a huge cinder block wall in front of the picture windows that would look out on the ocean, and they learned it was put up to defend against mob attacks of any sort.

When I lived in Soho, there was a trio of old guys who looked like they'd walked out of Goodfellas. They'd sit by the pizza parlor smoking cigars and trading tales. One morning I was surprised to find one guy hosing out the trunk of his car by the park next door. It seemed clear this wasn't something you'd ask friendly questions about.

It's always good to avoid men wearing suits. You never know if you're dealing with a Jehova's Witness, a sleazy used car salesman, or Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith.

it's for mafia members only. Wives and kids are allowed only on weekends for face painting and cannoli competitions.

I don't know about these days. It doesn't matter, though. Children let into a place would be safer there than a place where there aren't any mob guys. Any bad behavior towards women and children by punks would be dealt with swiftly and firmly by any mob/mafia guys.

They don't let it happen. The police go after them and prosecutors prosecute them. Many or most get convicted of crimes and get sent to prison. They had a better chance of staying out of prison several decades ago.
