Last time I checked these lists factored in "diversity" in their rankings, which is partly why Jericho, Great Neck, and Syosset are always near the top. Basically on one else but this list considers majority-Asian kids "diverse" (in fact SCOTUS just smacked down Harvard and other schools for discriminating against Asians).
if you actually click the linked article and read it, clearly it states this:
"The rankings are based on six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth and graduation rates."

I always thought this stupid list was meaningless TBH. No one cares what HS you went to in college admissions or applying for a job. Inteligent kids will do well in any average to decent school.

Supportive parents, the kid’s work ethic, and the kid’s IQ are the greatest predictors of high academic success.
Certain schools have higher numbers/greater concentrations of these three characteristics. And those are the top schools on the list.
Nothing more, nothing less.
(No magical teachers, administrative wizards, super duper supplies/textbooks/desks/pencils.)
It means this on USNEWS:
College readiness specifically measures participation and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams, and underserved student performance focuses on students who are Black, Hispanic or from low-income households.

The edu-babble is pretty thick as I thought it might mean Special Ed kids (‘underserved’).
Beyond that, I hear Cold Spring Harbor did really really well on this part.
No wonder folks snicker at rankings. That particular category is funny. That group is assumed to be ‘underserved’? Even in Hempstead or Westbury? Who is ‘overserved’? Maybe the folks who think up the ranking criteria.

The LI ranking should not include that category because every SD on the LI has the same offerings ()AP or IB, band, orchestra, art, music, etc ...) and near the same compensation matrix (+-10%).
