We are a family of four looking to relocate to South Nassau. Good schools are a must. Also not too far from south Brooklyn as I commute by car and wouldn't want to be stuck in traffic for too long.
From my initial research the best candidates are: Lynbrook, Valley Stream, Franklin Square and the Rockville centre. What do you think about those places? Any other options?

Listen, driving anywhere in the NY area these days is hell on earth, especially to a cesspool such as Brooklyn. So forget that pipe dream right now that you're going to have an easy commute driving.

Those are all decent areas. I'd say Rockville centre would be more upscale vs. the others. While parts of Valley Stream are almost ghetto these days. Lynbrook and Franklin Square are sort of in between...but still nice areas.

I'd also consider Hewlett, but that is expensive. However East Rockaway is nice but likely more affordable than Hewlett.

If you're willing to go further East, Merrick/Bellmore/Wantagh/Seaford are all nice areas, especially if you're white.

Is the LIRR an option? If so, Consider towns along the West Hempstead Branch, as I believe it offers the most direct service to Atlantic Terminal.

Unfortunately public transportation is not an option.
