A house that my friend is trying to buy says:

Net School Tax 357 3114.513 $11,118.81
Net Library Tax 357 145.91 $520.90
Net Recreation Tax
Combined School Taxes $11,639.71
School Adjustments STAR Savings -$1,484.00
Total School Taxes $10,155.71
1st Half Taxes $5,077.86
2nd Half Taxes $5,077.85

Then there are two exemptions listed:

B Basic Star 70 $1484.00
41680 VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS AND AMB 75 $2445.32

I see where the Star Savings is calculated (11,639.71 - 1484) but where is the Volunteer Firefighters exemption? Is that already calculated into the $11,118.81? Meaning would my friend be paying an additional $2,445.32 on these school taxes? Or is the current owner paying $2,445.32 less than the $10,155.71 listed?

If your friend isn’t a firefighter then they have to pay that. Keep in mind also when someone buys a house and the house gets appraised taxes still can go up because the value of the house is higher.

Are you just looking at the school taxes? There are also general taxes and village taxes if that applies.

Sounds like that home is in an incorporated village because of the library tax. If they live in a village there are 3 taxes, school, village and county, if they live in a township they pay school, town and county. Either way that does not include other real estate taxes.
