Pec, stop beating that dead horse. They were never going to do it anyway. It was a stunt. They played so many cities/govts for fools. They ended up with more freebies. Stop chasing bogus job # promises. They don't even pay $150k avg at the Seattle HQ. Never have, never will. Don't believe the hype. They were never going to get the deals they wanted outside the beltway/deep state area so of course that's where they ended up. They couldn't strong arm LIC, but they can walk all over congress since they have a lot of pig feed and leverage. They also learned why waste time with state/local headaches when you already have the feds by the short hairs. At the state level they made a hero out of AOC. At the fed level, they laugh in her face.
This.
Something like 4.6 million people work in New York City. What was the big deal about 25,000 jobs ??
If LIC had caved, you betcha every other large corporation in the city would start playing the strong arm game.
Take a walk through midtown or the west side of Manhattan and look at the construction cranes in the sky. The city is not hurting.

This is the classic LI ostrich game. Pining for the LOST jobs in LIC that LIers may have gotten, but head in the sand about the 25 yr exodus of industry OFF Long Island and the weak history right in our front yard of IDA's handing deals to companies who under-deliver on jobs or flat out take the money and then ultimately leave anyway.

the 25k jobs would have been well paying jobs not to mention the massive investments that would have come from amazon into the local economy. millions of those 4.6 are children or don't work, and millions more have low paying jobs that don't give a living wage. So yes 25k white collar jobs and one of the largest corporations having a HQ here is a big deal.
So far they have hired 1500 in NYC and 400 in VA. Not that that won't change but so much hype over a fantasy pitch by a behemoth corporation looking for handouts. Wake me up when anyone considers LI proper for their 25k jobs offer. Hell, we'll give them 10 years tax free for 25 jobs. They still don't want it.

As was said before though the tax breaks were tiered based on the amount of jobs amazon delivered. If they didnt deliver on the jobs then they don't get the tax breaks. The VA thing is curious though as Amazon was banking on getting that massive DOD cloud contract they lost, wonder if they will scale back their whole operation there now

NYC has 8.6 million residents, and 4.6 million people work in NYC (including commuters).
The whole tax break scheme worries me. Recently Nassau County granted a tax break to a car dealership. I don't get it.
Remember how the Bronx would benefit from "the new Yankee Stadium" ?

They're not scaling back in fact they just got approval to start building their two towers in Arlington so its full steam ahead for HQ2 Virginia....
Just wondering if those who supported these incentives would have felt about their tax dollars paying 25% of salaries for new graduates at Amazon, along with using Governors Island as an "island retreat" for Amazon staff . Capitalism at its best ?
