So in Farmingdale Observer January 2-8, 2019 page 3, there is a story by Frank Rizzo that addresses TOB recycling due to Tariffs on China.
Is it me? TOB had just signed a contract with Winters Brothers Hauling 2017 for 2018 wherein the terms were that Winters paid the town $25.08 to haul away recyclables.
Subsequent to imposition of China Tariffs Winters wanted to charge $65 a ton.
Is it me? Relying upon the article, TOB signs a contract for one year plus four priced options.
TOB officials thought it was a good idea allow Winters to unilaterally walk away from the priced option years for want of five months 2018 of service?
Who contracts like this? You or I having signed a contract would have to live with a signed contract, wouldn't we?
TOB made $500K from the contract (which interestingly wasn't included in their budget projections)
This is why we pay so much in government ineptitude.

Most contracts have an out clause. And even if it didn’t, why would a town force winter bros into a situation where the company would probably end up bankrupt.
It’s not just TOB. Same here in Brookhaven and Smithtown. China don’t want our trash anymore. We can’t feel good about ourselves anymore by shipping our trash to China and making it sound like we recycle.
