Does anyone remember a store in Middle Island in the late 60's or early 70's called Whites? It was a five and dime, just not sure of the name exactly. Thanks.

It was White's. They merged with the Modell's Shoppers World Stores and became White-Modell for a couple of years. That company went into reorganization and re-opened as Modell's Shoppers World again before finally selling off the Shoppers World stores (mostly to Home Depot) and going back to focus on sporting goods and related clothing.
What kinds of things did they sell there at the store and it was a good store? What other kinds of stores did they have and were there in 70 and 60s?
It was a department store as I recall very much like Times Square but I'm not sure if it was concessions or private. My 1st real bicycle was purchased there. A 24" red Royce Union with lots of chrome accents.

Yes, I worked for White's in the early 70s. I never went to the store in Middle Island but some of our managers worked at both. White's had a store in Massapequa, too - on Sunrise Highway near the drive in movie theater and monkey zoo that used to be there. White's merged with Modell's for awhile while I was employed at the store in East Meadow on Jericho Tpke. in around 1973.
I remember going to the one in Massapequa in the mid 60s
