I assume Pulaski Road (County Route 11) was named after Casimir Pulaski (not a LI historical figure).
I know the Vanderbilt Parkway was built by William K. Vanderbilt as a private toll road.
But it seems the majority of roads in the area are not named after people important to Long Island history. Am I mistaken?

Around here, a lot of streets, lanes, drives are named after some of the original settlers or prominent figures: Thompson, Hawkins, Van Brunt ... not major highways but multiple streets.

In the Thompson's case - the Thompson Hay Path in Setauket, I believe was the original path Thompson (or his workers) used to carry the hay...
And there is Smithtown as well.

In Babylon there are many streets named after local historical people : Sammis, Carle, Cooper.... many of these people still have family living in this area.

Gardiner, Wyandanch, Smith, Talmadge, Lloyd and Washington are 6 that popped into my head. Montauk Highway just popped in.

Many places on LI have names based upon who owned them and old trails turned roads named by their purpose, location or an outstanding attribute. The original east-west paths 25a, 27a, and 25 were sensibly named Main St by early settlers and despite the NYS route number assignations, are still referred to as such today in most of Suffolk and Nassau.

Rapid post WWII devrlopment lead to neighborhoods with theme -based names which Kent themselves more to the allusion of white picket fences and less to the historical individuals who fought for independence or helped shape LI.
