Thanks for the info. Yes, we are only looking within the Levittown Union Free School District as they seem to be good overall academically AND great for special ed (we have both acaademically gifted and developmental delayed children in our family). We are not bothered at all by the no basement thing, but need a garage and an attic. Are there homes in Levittown that fit this bill? Thanks again!
Bought my Levvit cape in September 2005. We did slight renovations to the home since it was an estate sale and lived like that till december 2009 when we did a full gut downstairs and added a full double dormer with raised peak. We love the area, and the neighborhood. I just wish there as more commercial property, so our taxes would not be so high, but this is Nassau County and there really is no relief anywhere for the size of my house and the property that I have. We are zoned for Mac Arthur and Salk and my wife teaches in the district. I have friends in the area with capes and they have attics, called eeves. The eeves are located on the front and the back of the bedrooms. You will see what I am referring to when you go look at one of the homes.
My brother in laws fathers home will be going on the market soon. It is an estate sale, and I believe it will be priced around $250k. It has 4 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, original kitchen, redone bath, new siding, newer roof and a garage. It is in the Mac Arthur district. If interested, send me a message, and I will talk to my brother in law to find out when the house will be listed. The house is on a great family orientated block. Most of my area consists of young families with and without children and there are a few of the original or close to the original owner levitts.
With respect to the HS: which is preferable? A home zoned for MacArthur or one zoned for Division?
Macarther or the Island Trees School District over Division. We live in Levittown now for 7 years in the Island Trees section and we love it. It is very family friendly. I don't miss having a basement and we converted the back of the garage to a playroom/bonus room and kept the front half garage storage space. We did have a lot of closets built upstairs when we front dormered and have a shed in the backyard. So far storage hasn't been a major issue.
You are right, the Levittown has an excellent Special Ed program, and is one of the more established programs around. In particular, I have heard great things about Northside Elementary, which falls within the Division Ave HS parameters. The overall perception in that MacArther is "better", but IMO It think it's marginal at best. And frankly, you can get a lot of house for not a lot of money north of the Turnpike. Good luck.
Hello. I am looking for an area with an urban feel ie coffee shops, restaurants, shopping bear by. Our preference is salisbury but unfortunately nothing available that we like so we are looking into levittown. Which parts of Levittown would fit the bill? Which parts are closer to LIRR? Thanks
Levittown has none of the criteria that you are looking for. There is no LIRR station in Levittown. Take a look at Farmingdale.
There are some Levitt homes with Hicksville addresses (Spindle Road area). You can commute out of the Hicksville LIRR station if you purchase there . Great commute (if there is such a thing as a great commute on the LIRR).
If the Salisbury area of East Meadow is too far from the Hicksville station then Farmingdale is probably your best bet. Or Bethpage.
But if you look in Farmingdale then why not go a skootch farther east and get into Suffolk county where you won't have to deal with the whole Nassau County property tax mess?
Have you looked at any towns along the Babylon branch of the LIRR, in either Nassau or Suffolk?
