Was wondering if there was anyone on this forum making approx $45000 a year, living on Long Island. Tell me your experiences and how well you survive. Thanks
I know this doesn't answer your question, but I heard on the local radio today that Delta is committed to expansion at LGA. Maybe that will provide more opportunity for you to move up and increase your salary. To quote Brian Wilson, "Wouldn't It Be Nice."

Coney...your pretty sharp recognizing my Beach Boys screen name with the cute anecdote Glad you remember my "homesick" story !!
Correct....Delta is adding approx 250 flights with the huge expansion. Plenty of job openings. Funny thing though, we get about 5 agents that transfer to ATL from LGA/JFK for about every 1 that transfers back to LGA. Everyone has their own personal resaons. Its mostly families that come down here for the affordable cost of living. One single girl transferred back to LGA last month to be near family. She emailed me recently saying she's renting a room in a 2 bdrm apartment in Astoria for $1000/month, but so far she is happy. I really dont want to live like that. The prices on those co-ops in suffolk keep coming down and makes me anxious to buy one. I can buy a 1 bdrm and not have a mtg but the taxes and fees are still high...lol.

Gross or net (after SS taxes, federal taxes, state taxes and local property taxes).?
not easy with that net amount - many can make that much as long as they have dual income to support them. $2400 is a lot of people's mortgage, and half of that is many people's rent.
The way I figure it...and this is just a guess....I'll have about $400 left for the month for food and essentials after all expenses including co-op fees/taxes, electric, cable, internet, phone, car ins, and gas. Actually gas would be the most....my calculation is about $350/month from say Hauppuage to LGA. Could it all be more or less? Most of these co-ops include heat, water, garbage, taxes and fees in the montly payment. They advertise "just pay electric $50/month!"
$400 a month to live on is risky. What about car repairs? What about clothes? Shoes? Gifts? Holidays? That's really cutting it close but I wonder if maybe a 2nd p/t job might work for you. BTW, my rent is 3/4 of your monthly net plus I pay all utilities. My income is not a large amount more than yours. I am frugal.
Coincidentally, I'm flyng on Delta out of LGA next week. Err, LGA is not one of my favorite airports as a passenger.
When you investigate the co-ops, try to find out how often they have increased the maintenance fees. With the steady increase in property taxes here, I am just concerned that your salary may not be able to keep up.
