I live in Texarkana, AR and I very much enjoy going to LR every once and awhile. I like to always drive past the skyline. I am seeing the same old buildings, nothing too new other than the 300 Third Tower and River Market high-rises. Does anyone know about any new skyscrapers that should or will be added to the LR skyline?? Thanks.. OH! How's the new Park Avenue (old University Mall) development coming along?

No new "high rise" planned or going up that I'm aware of. A Target store is well on it's way to being completed at old UM, but I don't know it's anticipated opening date.

I haven't heard of any new high-rises. There's a big focus on getting Main St. back in good condition and promoting in-fill in there, so I wouldn't expect any new large buildings for a while until things start picking up there.
Target opens this October, and I'm hoping more things will build in that development once it opens. It's going to be quite a large Target.

Is than in/near downtown or in an "in-town" area? I haven't been to LR for a while.

It's in what is considered mid-town, just past the Hillcrest/Heights area and next to St. Vincent and the Park Plaza mall.

For a city its size, the skyline seems fairly typical to me.

As previously mentioned, there haven't been any new larger buildings in the immediate time frame, although since 2003 the new Acxiom HQ (12 floors), the First Security Center (14 floors), 300 3rd (18 floors, I believe), and the River Market Tower (19 or 20 floors) have all been completed. There's also been ongoing renovations at some of the more prominent downtown buildings like the Union Plaza Building and the Lafayette building. They're not huge buildings by any means, but that's a lot of new mid-tower residential and commercial construction in the last few years (apparently around $1 billion of investment in the River Market area in the last ten years).

There's been a ton of low-rise office growth in west Little Rock (sprawl, in my opinion, but it's a nice part of town) and a few new towers in the UAMS area (all UAMS facilities, of course), but that's outside the scope of this thread.

You ARE considering the city's size, right? Doesn't NYC keep you busy enough?

The River Market is doing pretty well, and now it's good to see some new investments happening in the Main Street corridor. With a couple major building sales in the last two weeks and some demolition a street over for a future office tower, that section should be the next part of downtown to watch.

Apartments called ‘first domino’ of Main Street revitalization
By Alison Sider

LITTLE ROCK — The boards have come down from the windows of an old Gus Blass Co. building at 315 S. Main St., breathing new life into the nearly 110-year-old building - and with it, the city’s hopes for Main Street revitalization.

The building is being renovated to house 30 loft-style apartments and a jazz club and restaurant. Building plans will be unveiled today in a news conference held by Mayor Mark Stodola and Bob East of the Downtown Little Rock Partnership at 11 a.m.

The Downtown Partnership appears to be the most centralized source of information and "strategy based" organization for the neighborhood. I've tried contacting them a couple of times to no avail. Anyone know how to get involved with them?
