Hello Everyone!

I applied back in February for PBX Operator. I didn't have a "1st interview" I went straight to the Department Head interview in April.

Yesterday, I got a call asking if I was still interested in the position. I was told to come in today from 9am-2:30pm to take the hair follical test. When I went in this morning only a few people were in the Drug testing area. I asked the nurse when the results would be back, she said "instantly". While I was in the room she asked me what "department" I was "hired" for. I told her and then she asked if I was working at the moment. Not sure why the nurse would ask. Maybe just small talk? Did anyone else have the same experience? As I walked out a page handed me the same post card as I got when I went on my interview. She said that no job offers would be extended until September as stated on the card. And to make sure I check the website and my e-mail. (I was never told that the drug test was a big step just "Congradulations".)

My experience working at Wynn is that a "typical Casino opening" hires the PBX department right away **The position I applied for** (or at least a little over a Month prior to the opening date) it's one of the first areas to be put in place ASAP(besides: Directors, Managers, Supervisors etc.). I only say that because the PBX department is the hub for all the other departments. Answering, transfering calls, getting the works of the resort and so on.

*Also in my Dept. Head interview I was told that PBX would typically be hired a little sooner then the rest.

**I was also told that Aria would start with 50% more employees then needed and as demand is no longer needed (January-February) almost 60-70% would be let go. (also "typical" for an opening)

***PBX for Aria, Mandarin Oriental and Crystals will have only one hub for PBX set in Aria (So I would assume with 3 resorts PBX for Aria would need to be put in place ASAP) Only from my experience with a Casino opening.

I wish you all the best of luck! If I hear anymore "news" I'll let you know. I myself was wondering why they would call someone in for a follical test if they were not going to extend an offer soon. Why do the test two Months prior to extending an offer then? We will see I suppose. I'm not going to hold my breathe...

Have a great 4th!!

I am so close to withdrawing my application and applying for another restaurant that's less competative especially when I read about people getting their drug tests done already. But I'm just holding on a little longer because the CIty center people keeps assuring me that being on ACTIVE Status is a good thing.

Some people posted on othe websited that they've gotten a job offer as a server in Julian Serrano which I'm skeptical about because no one should get a job offer til August or September, right?
Hello Scorpio78,

How are you? Well on my status page my job status says OPEN, but the application status does'nt say anything at all. Don't withdraw your app yet, call citycenter (702-590-2489) and have them explain to you whats going on, condsidering that the position is no longer on the job search engine, and that yours still say ACTIVE, cuz I was told thats a huge plus also. Even though I did take the drug test, me and other candidates were assured that all the offers are coming in August/September so that you are correct on. But don't withdraw yet, when or if you call maybe ask to speak to someone above the representative, explain to them that you are really confuse to what is going on and you really want to know where you stand....Hope this help ok . Please keep me Posted anytime, as I will keep you posted with any news that come to me.....Say Positive and GOOD LUCK

Thanks for your advice. I will hang on it for a while. The department interview went really well the last time and I just need to let things flow. If it's meant for me, I'll get it. Anyway, my fiance applied for the valet position a few days ago but changed his mind and didn't schedule for the HR interview. He got an email yesterday saying they reviewed his application and they are interested to meet with him. He got an invite straight to a department interview for Valet. It will be on the 7th of this month. I'll posts what happens after that. I'll posts any updates that I may get in the future with my application. I think it's helpful for everyone to do the same so we could all get some feedbacks to where we might stand. BTW, how much experience do you have with being a cocktail server? Do you work for any of the casinos now? I thought of applying cocktails in the beginning but held back. I do have about 6 years experience doing that and 9 years experience as a food server. Lounge server at JG was on my lists to apply for too but the manager I spoke with at the department interview told me that I'd be going against top notch cocktail waitresses and lounge servers that worked in the clubs and 5 star casinos. He suggested for me to keep my position as gourmet server because I am well more qualified for it. Well, guess this is an experience for all of us. City Center sure knows how to keep people on their toes

I was also told that if your appication is still active that your in good standing, and if the position you applied for is still open for more applications you will have to wait for the department to close it and they will start calling people to take drug test. GOOD LUCK ok

There will always be people who will lie you others on this forum just to upset them. But everybody can guarantee that citycenter has not hired any cocktail waitresses yet, nor have they started drug testing for any of these positions. Whoever tells you that they have is lying to you just as butterfly69 above lied to you all.
Well, you may be a food and beverage supervisor, but apparently reading comprehension wasn't a prerequisite for your position. You owe butterfly an apology (not that I expect you to acknowledge your mistake). You'll most likely just slink away from the forum never to be heard from again.

If this was any sort of indication of how you deal with interpersonal relations, I truly feel sorry for your subordinate employees.

I got the phone call for the follical test. I actually talked to the appointment setter. She asked if I still wanted the position, I said "of course" and then she said that they wanted me to come in the next day to have it done. After looking at the website again I noticed that I had my application in 01/03/09 and then my interview was not in April like I thought but 03/03/09 exactly 2 Months after. Maybe their bulking up on the drug tests so soon? They really do know how to keep everyone in the dark...

I also did a little research. On the FAQ site for City Center employment they have 5 stages to their staffing process. (I'm truly sorry if you already read this)

Step 1: Online Application Process (Well, kinda obvious)

Step 2: Career Advisement (I skipped this step for some reason)
Your application will be reviewed by a Career Advisor. The Career Advisor will consider your specific job skills, experience and preferences in selecting the best possible position match between you and our company.

Step 3: Department Interview
A department hiring manager will evaluate your qualifications based on a number of factors, such as job stability, experience and specific skills related to the position you are applying for.

Step 4: Clearances (Most of us are in this phase)
As part of the hiring process, the information submitted on your application will be verified. Also, pre-employment drug testing is a condition of employment.

Step 5: Job Offer
All job offers are made in writing. If you are chosen for a position, a meeting will be scheduled with a hiring manager to review details such as start date, rate of pay, days off and shift.

**I can only gather that once you hit step 4 your in the clear as long as everything checks out good. They wouldn't put you thru step 4 if they didn't want to hire you. So I say congrats as long as you pass their clearances you pretty much will have a jub offer by August or September.. That's my own personal opinion.

My application was the same as yours, submitted in January, had my HR interview February, then my department interview 3rd week of March. I haven't gotten a letter like some people nor any phone call for drug test but my status is ACTIVE. The departments may have different timelines and approach to how they will be processing their applicants . I do believe that no one is a guaranteed a job until they actually extend a job offer. I've known people who were actually scheduled for a uniform fitting but were later on declined employment. New casinos will cover their departments by having tons of people in line just in case they lay off or people don't pass their probation which gets a lot of people hoping and waiting for pathetically nothing.

Hello Scorpio78,

I'm glad your going to hold on to your application longer, but still call just to know where you stand because the JG server is no longer posted if I recall correctly. Wow you have a lot of experience in cocktail serving, why did'nt you apply for cocktails? Well I almost applied for lounge server also, but applied for cocktail instead. What is the difference between them anyways? (cocktail and lounge server) because when you read the discriptions their similar. Well I hope you hear something positive from them soon or get some good feedback. Tell your fiance good luck...And I'll try to keep you posted ok
