Are there any reasonable options for rent in decent areas that have/allow doggy doors? I'd love to get a dog but not if it can't have access to some grass to go to the bathroom outside on his/her own terms. Maybe patio training could work but again, it'd need to be somewhere that would allow putting in a doggy door. And of course leaving a dog outside is completely out of the question as far as I am concerned.

if you have a slidding patio door, you just pick up the dawg door insert.....it slips into place and is totally removable.

Check out Camden. They have several apartment communities all over town and they are dog friendly.

I'm not sure of any apartments that have a fenced in area that would make a dog door practical... unless you just wanted the dog to go out on the balcony. Las Vegas has a leash law, so in theory your dog shouldn't just be left to roam around an apartment complex. You'd probably have better luck renting a house... I found a place on Craig's List by a private owner who allows me to have both a dog and a dog door.

Thanks guys. In Phoenix there are some condos or first story apartments that have their own grassy areas you can fence in/that are already fenced in for each unit, so I was hoping there'd be something similar. The insert idea is a good one though if I can adopt a dog that will use a fake grassy area on a balcony or similar though. Well if it's a very small dog that doesn't need a ton of yard exercise while I'm away. I'll look into houses and Camden.

I can't imagine any apartment that would allow a dog to roam free without being attached to a leash.

I know the condos you can't do that, they have far to many restrictions. But maybe a doggy door only to the patio could work.

I don't mean roaming free. I meant that in Phoenix, some areas have individual grassy areas separated by driveways, and they can be fenced in for pets. Meaning the yard would be accessible only from your own door, not a common area.

There are a few such apartments but not anywhere you would want to live.

you can however find townhouses or such which have suitable miniyards or patios. Easy above 1200 per month. Tougher at 1000 probably not possible below 800.
