If Amtrak was going to create a series of new (direct) routes in the west that would serve Vegas where would you like them to go (other than LA and Phoenix). San Fran? Reno?not to discuss problems with creating new rail lines.

Vegas-SLC would be easy, especially with the substantial reduction in freight traffic over the UP line between the two cities in the past ten years. Vegas-Socal would be tougher given the congestion over the BNSF transcon line down Cajon Pass between Yermo, CA and Riverside. Would still love to see it, and would be a regular patron.

LOL , dream Amtrak routes... Amtrak should be shrunk down to regional networks which are profitable and have higher ridership.

Creating larger Regional networks over the national network is a very good idea...the National network is a drain...regional networks like the West , Northeast / West and Midwest are not.
