Could be like above In DC its Cherry Blossom Festival time. At least some form of them type of trees. They bloom earlier than most and leaves last the longest before they fall off.

Continuing the name that bloom theme.... Can anyone identify the trees that currently have the pink blooms? This tree's leaves come out along with the bloom, so you have the pink bloom surrounded by green leaves. There are several at Forest Park near Sutherland and several on Cherokee Boulevard. Thanks for the replies above!

Not a dogwood. I saw one on campus and it looks similar to this - maybe slightly smaller flowers?

It's a Japanese Flowering Cherry, or Shirofugen.

I asked about it on City-Data, several years ago.

Here's the thread and my pics:

Just back from Knoxville trip, flowering tree questions

Thanks! That sure looks like them. Here's a similar picture. They look pinkish (to me) from a distance but more towards white up close.

After posting photos of them, I was told they are Kwanzan flowering cherry trees.

I have a tree question! I see huge (what appear to be) rhododendron trees, but the blossoms (appear to be, passing by in the car) large single white flowers rather than the pink/purple cluster I'm used to seeing with rhodies. Is it just another variety that grows full-tree size?
